Here is a common list of Utah documents the Lt. Governor’s Office may authenticate:
- Original public documents that are certified by State of Utah agencies do not need notarization. These types of documents include (this is not a comprehensive list):
- Birth Certificate – must be a certified copy from Vital Records
- Corporate Documents – must be a certified copy from the Department of Commerce (emailed/printed copies from commerce will not be accepted)
- Marriage License – must be a certified copy from the county or from Vital Records
- Divorce Decree – must be a certified copy from the Court Clerk of the county where the divorce is recorded
- School Documents – must be a certified copy from the Utah public school (Private school documents must be correctly notarized)
- Notarized documents. Documents properly notarized by a Utah notary may be authenticated. These documents include the following (this is not a comprehensive list):
- Adoption papers
- Authorization to conduct business in foreign countries
- Copies of passports
- School records – transcripts, report cards or diplomas
- Power of attorney
- Deed of assignment
- Distributorship agreement
- References, job certification, and employment letters
- Vehicle title
- Police clearances
- Documents Not Authenticated by the Lt. Governor’s Office
- Documents notarized by a remote notary
- Public documents issued from outside of Utah (Including foreign countries)
- Documents that originate from a different state (Roster of Secretaries of State/Lieutenant Governors)
- Federal documents must be sent to the US State DepartmentÂ
- Documents not notarized, if they are not public
- Documents that are improperly notarized
- A document regarding allegiance to a government or sovereignty
- FBI background checks
